Day Camp

General Information

Camp Tiger Tails includes our various year round Day Camps and a 10 week summer camp, with different themes every week, located at the Walter Payton Center of the JSU Recreation Complex. All campers must be between the ages 5 (and having completed kindergarten) and 16. Parent(s) or Guardian(s) need to provide a lunch for their children unless the lunch option is purchased through Camp Tiger Tails. A mid-morning and afternoon snack will be provided (children with special diets need to provide their own snack). Swimming and sport activities are a part of our every day programming, so campers will need to bring appropriate attire to participate, including sunscreen, towel, socks and athletic shoes. Campers are divided into groups according to age and participate in age appropriate activities. Enrollment is limited to 100 children. Each session is on a first come first serve basis. To reserve a spot, please pay the deposit or full payment for each session.

Please note:  Spring Break Day Camp for 2017 has been cancelled.

Camp Notes:

  • Fall Break Day Camp is does not meet over the weekend.
  • Snacks provided, please bring your own lunch.
  • A weekly information newsletter (Camp Times) will be available for the parents and campers each day camp. The newsletter will cover attire needed for daily programs and pertinent information needed of each parent/guardian for that camp.
  • A Parent Guide is available for each family on the day of Registration. This Guide will help answer any and all questions you might have about parking, what to bring to camp, policies, and important phone numbers.

Camp Hours

Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.
Camp Programming Hours are from 8:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.

Camper Drop Off

(7:30 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.) Parking Lot next to the Walter Payton Center.  If you are facing the building the parking lot to the right in front of the TB Ellis building. This is only a 20 minute loading zone. Parent/Guardian must sign in each child they drop off.

Camper Pick Up

(3:30-5:00 p.m.) Campers must be picked up and signed out by a parent or authorized person by 5:00 p.m.

Absences & Refunds

Deposits for programs are non-refundable and non-transferable.

All refund requests must be received by 8:30 a.m. on the third day of the camp session.

If absent for medical reasons, and with approval by the Camp Coordinator, participants may receive a 75% refund of the unused days for the camp session. Please remember that this excludes the $35 Deposit and $5 Program Fee.

Refunds are not available for vacations, special events, short-term illnesses of four days or fewer, or other personal commitments that prevent attendance.

A refund may be available for an extended illness of five or more consecutive program days. A doctor’s note and written note from the parent or guardian explaining the situation must be received within eight working days from the first day of absence. Upon review, participants may receive a prorated refund for the unused days.

If we cancel a session, a full refund or transfer will be issued.

All refunds will be mailed by check, 7-10 business days after approved. Refunds will be made only to the original payee or credit card holder.

Grounds for Camper Dismissal

There are times when the camp must dismiss a child due to psychological or emotional problems that precludes the child from participating safely or effectively in a group.  Dismissal will take effect only after consultation with the parents, camper, and camp Director.  Dismissal for the aforementioned reasons will result in a complete refund for the unused days.

On occasion, dismissal may be necessary for disciplinary reasons.  This action will take effect only after consultation among the parents, camper, and the camp director.  If a camper is dismissed for disciplinary reasons, there will be NO REFUND for the unused days.

Camp Staff

Students attending Jackson State University and other qualified individuals.

All staff are CPR/First Aid/AED Certified.

All staff required to go through background checks and are fingerprinted before hired.

All student employees go through an extensive interview process, and extensive training which entails safety responsibilities, human relations and interpersonal skills with children.
