Sweetness Fest is an annual run/walk and Health Fair for the Fight Against Obesity.
Today, two-thirds of U.S. adults and nearly one in three children struggle because they are overweight or have obesity. The effects of the nation’s obesity epidemic are immense: taxpayers, businesses, communities and individuals spend hundreds of billions of dollars each year due to obesity, including nearly $200 billion in medical costs. Obesity is the reason that the current generation of youth is predicted to live a shorter life than their parents.
Much can be done to reverse the epidemic, yet important opportunities to tackle obesity — including changes that enable more Americans to eat healthy and be active, as well as those that provide fitness and wellness programs and services — have gone largely unseen. The Annual Sweetness Fest want to assist in filling this gap. By bringing together leaders from other industries, academia and health and wellness providers, the Sweetness Fest and STRONGER.TOGETHER Campaign, along with the JSU Walter Payton Center at the Recreation Complex, we can all provide the information and guidance that decision-makers, families, and individuals need to make changes that will reverse one of the nation’s costliest and most prevalent diseases.
The Annual Sweetness Events started as a Fun Run and has turned into a grand event to support The Fight Against Obesity in the state of Mississippi. The JSU Walter Payton Center at the Recreation Complex strives to be the pinnacle of fitness and wellness in the Jackson Community through a variety of programs and services targeting JSU Students, Faculty/Staff and the Jackson Community. We have come a long way in the past 10 years, but we still need your support! Your generous contribution will help us extend our cause to more than just downtown Jackson and reach out to other cities to join the fight against obesity.
