The best thing I learned through traveling is to have an open mind. Cultures are different, and you have to embrace different cultures. That’s part of the reason I came to Jackson State.
When I was applying for Ph.D. programs in clinical psychology, I wanted a program that had more of an emphasis on diversity issues, because I felt like I really didn’t get that much training in that in undergrad. And with Jackson State being in the deep south, there is a large population of African Americans and a decent population of Latino Americans as well. So I thought it would be a really good place to get some diversity training. And since I’ve been here, I’ve really liked it.”
