Dear JSU Family,
This is the year of 2020, and as we enter a new decade of excellence in higher education at Jackson State University (JSU), we reflect on where we have been and where we are going. The achievements of JSU, our alumni and our students would not have the same value if we didn’t know how far we’ve come and understood the sacrifice of those before us.
May 15, 2020, marks the 50th anniversary of the Gibbs-Green tragedy that is etched in the history of Jackson State University and our country as one of the most tragic massacres experienced on a college campus. Despite the memory of overwhelming racial overtones of this tragedy and the loss of Phillip LaFayette Gibbs and James Earl Green, their memory and the perseverance of the students who survived that day is woven in the fabric of who we are as the JSU Community of alumni, scholars, professors, researchers and donors. We are survivors!
Our foundation has been laid and it is our responsibility as JSU alumni, students, faculty and staff to not only survive but to lead JSU to an Era of Thriving. As we take time to reflect, let’s renew our commitments and lay a foundation of sustainability for our “dear ole college home.” This decade will be remembered as one of purpose, passion and perseverance. Please join the Jackson State University National Alumni Association in committing to expanding our membership, building strategic partnerships and meeting our goal of raising millions in scholarships for the future of JSU.
We are 2020 JSU Strong!
